Furman University’s Kathleen B. Casey continues her local book tour with a stop at “Your Carolina” a program of WSPA 7News. Casey, a professor of history and director of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program, joins host Megan Heidlberg to talk about “The Things She Carried: A Cultural History of the Purse in America.” She says the purse is a small thing, but its impact is significant, spanning 200 years. Casey reveals the inspiration for her book and talks about moments in history when purses, bags and sacks played roles in women’s rights, civil rights, and in privacy and gender issues. “Almost every woman I’ve met has a story about her purse,” Casey says.
