Carolyn Day explores one of the strangest fashion trends in history

While pursuing her postgraduate history degree, Furman History professor Carolyn A. Day kept finding references to tuberculosis as “an easy and beautiful way to die,” which didn’t line up with her understanding of the disease from a medical perspective. Day talks about the disease’s odd relationship between fashion and beauty with the Greenville Journal’s Sara Pearce who kindly plugs Day’s talk and book signing event at M. Judson Booksellers set for Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Day’s book, Consumptive Chic: A History of Beauty, Fashion and Disease was published this month by Bloomsbury.
