Brendan Talwar ’11 talks ‘All the Sharks’ on WSPA’s ‘Your Carolina’
Furman University biology alum Brendan Talwar ’11 and fellow marine biologist Chris Malinowski appeared as guests on WSPA 7News’ “Your Carolina” with host and Furman alum Jamarcus Gaston ’09 (communication studies and music).
Talwar and Malinowski spoke via Zoom about their goals following their stint on Netflix series “All the Sharks” where teams compete to photograph rays and sharks in ecosystems all over the globe. They talk about what drove them to the world of sharks and the reality TV program.
Talwar gives a shoutout to the Furman Biology Department for bringing him experiences in the field such as a trip to Belize to study tropical coral reefs, and Wild Semester, a program in the New Mexico deserts led by Furman Biology Professor Travis Perry. “[Wild Semester] instilled in me a conservation ethic and gave me some of the scientific tools to apply to the real world and solve some of the pressing environmental problems that we now face,” Talwar said.
Now the researchers are focused on educating the world about sharks and rays and conservation efforts through Sharkdocs.org.
