Jane Robelot of WYFF News 4 sat down with Furman University’s Akan Malici to discuss the Israel-Hamas war. Malici, a professor of politics and international affairs, said the Palestinian Liberation Organization agreed to a peace deal with Israel in 1988 in exchange for an independent Palestinian state. 1993 brought the Oslo Accords, an effort to set up an interim government for independent Palestinian territories.

“The hope was that a Palestinian state of some kind would come into being – that never happened,” Malici said. Hear more comments from Malici in coverage aired on WYFF during the 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, broadcasts.
