Tracking student progress
David Eubanks, Furman’s assistant vice president for assessment and institutional effectiveness, wrote an article for Intersection, the journal of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education, about the methodological flaws that are inherent to assessing student learning when care is not taken with regard to data quality. The Chronicle of Higher Education wrote about the various insights in Eubanks’ piece, saying he had “taken a courageous position.” According to Eubanks, his piece in Intersection “shows off some of the novel assessment practices that stem from The Furman Advantage and its commitment to students as individuals, in contrast to a common factory-like conception for education.”
