Riley Institute to host conversation with Ambassador Rahm Emanuel
The Riley Institute at Furman University will host Ambassador Rahm Emanuel and Upstate business leader Billy Webster for an on-stage conversation about the public policy issues shaping the national conversation ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center, will explore what voters are weighing, where common ground may still be possible and how leaders can work across partisan lines to advance the public good.
Emanuel, a former congressman, mayor of Chicago, U.S. ambassador to Japan and White House chief of staff under President Barack Obama, will join Webster for the discussion. Webster has served in public service roles under former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley and in the Clinton and Bush administrations.
The event is co-sponsored by Furman’s Department of Politics and International Affairs, Department of Communication Studies and On Discourse Initiative. It is free for Furman students, faculty and staff and open to the public. Registration is requested.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 6-7 p.m.
Where: Watkins Room, Trone Student Center, Furman University, 3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville.
Registration: Register for the event through the Riley Institute.
Attendees should note that a strict no-bag policy will be in effect, and all guests must pass through security.
