Following last week’s gubernatorial primaries, Jermaine Johnson won the democratic nomination outright while two remaining republicans will face each other in a runoff on June 23. ABC affiliate WJCL-SAV (Savannah) turned to Furman University’s Danielle Vinson for her insights on what the runoff will hold for Pamela Evette and Alan Wilson. She said it could go either way.

“Right now, I think the one thing we know that distinguishes them is that Evette has Trump’s endorsement,” said Vinson, Furman alum and professor of politics and international affairs. “But it’s not like Alan Wilson is not also a Trump supporter. So I think they’re going to have to actually start talking a bit more about issues and helping voters distinguish between the two of them.” And that means candidates will likely ramp up spending on ads, she explained.
