News sources pay tribute to Frank Selvy ’54

News of Frank Selvy’s passing on Aug. 13 was covered in several media outlets. One of the greatest players in college basketball history, Furman University All-American Selvy is known for scoring 100 points in a single game – the only D1 player ever to do so. The three-time All-America selection averaged 32.5 points per game over his 78-game collegiate career (1952-1954) and reached the 40-point threshold 22 times. After his NBA career with the Baltimore Bullets and Los Angeles Lakers, Selvy returned to Furman in 1966 and coached four seasons with the Paladins. Selvy was named to seven halls of fame before he died at age 91.

Among dozens of other media sources, the story appeared on ESPN and SI.com, in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Associated Press and in The Post and Courier, The Greenville News and Greenville Journal. Local stations FOX Carolina, WSPA 7News (CBS), WYFF News 4 (NBC) aired the news as did WKYT (CBS) in Lexington, Kentucky, and WDBD-TV (FOX 40) in Jackson, Mississippi.
