Riley Institute awards event draws political heavyweights from across state, nation

David Petraeus, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, was the keynote speaker when Furman’s Riley Institute honored South Carolina Representative James Smith and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina board chair Ed Sellers with the 2011 David Wilkins Awards for Excellence in Legislative and Civic Leadership. Those in attendance included former South Carolina Governor and U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins, and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
