State nixed safety plan for ‘dangerous’ White Horse Road over funding

Aleria, a politics and international affairs major, conducted a study for Bike Walk Greenville, where she interned. The study showed that pedestrian deaths along White Horse Road and other busy Greenville County thoroughfares were concentrated in the most underserved communities.

After a failed 2020 proposal to improve safety for White Horse Road, which has seen 23 pedestrian deaths from 2010-2019, a new move is underway to increase funding to make the road safer by adding raised concrete medians, crosswalks, new signage and ADA ramps, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
