During a Greenville County Schools board meeting, members broached the topic of offering a public Montessori school option. While South Carolina has 47 public Montessori programs, the ones in Greenville County exist only in private schools. Ariel Gilreath covered the story for The Greenville News. Part of the conversation about incorporating Montessori in public schools stems from a 2015-16 study led by Brooke Culclasure of the Riley Institute at Furman University. The research revealed that Montessori students, on average, performed higher than their peers in English language arts, math and social studies.
