Industry Tour: MASD Gets to Know EP+Co

Students of Furman’s Master of Arts in Strategic Design (MASD) don’t just graduate with an impressive portfolio and a strong network of industry connections. Throughout the program, they build valuable relationships with industry professionals, gaining insights and guidance to help shape their careers. They also participate in industry tours, where the students get an inside look at how marketing teams and advertising agencies operate—giving them firsthand knowledge of what to expect as they enter the creative field.

Most recently, MASD students toured local advertising agency EP+Co with Furman alumnus Jeff Henry, EVP, Director of Creative Operations as their host. EP+Co was founded in Greenville and has been part of the business community for over 30 years. During this time, the full-service advertising agency has grown exponentially and opened a second office in New York City. Its clients range from John Deere to Bojangles, with many more in between. Founder and agency president Allen Bosworth spoke with students and shared his experience starting the agency as well as his advertising philosophy, which he described as “creating something novel to solve a problem.”

Students toured the office space and its facilities before sitting down with three employees to learn about their unique roles in the agency. Each professional presented a current project as well as the creative process behind each one. They explained the assignment, their role in the project, and all the various collaborations that came together to create the final product, whether that be a commercial, beer can or website. This behind-the-scenes glimpse allowed students to learn about industry best practices and gain an advanced understanding of practical applications of their classroom skills.

This tour of EP+Co also highlighted the wide range of roles within the creative field and is part of our graduate programs’ dedication to career development and student success.
