Furman Alum Recognized for Identifying 710 Possible Stars

Furman Alum Bob Anderson and his students (at J.L. Mann Academy) have been recognized by NITARP, the NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program. This program gets teachers involved in authentic astronomical research projects with professional astronomers. Educators involved in the research incorporate experiences of the program into their classrooms and share their experience with other teachers.

Over the past two years, Mr Anderson’s team looked for young stars in an assigned region within the Spider Nebula using infrared excesses. They have identified 710 possible red stars from from a somewhat overlooked area within their region.
