Becoming a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Scholar
Our identities as scholars within our fields can sometimes impede our conception of ourselves as SoTL researchers, as it can be a challenge to learn new methodologies or “make room” for our SoTL selves within our identities as biologists, historians, artists, or whatever the fields of our original disciplinary homes have been or continue to be. However, if you’ve ever wondered about the effect of a small assignment tweak on student learning, or wanted to conduct a deeper dive into student mindsets about their own research, learning, or self-efficacy, you are well on your way to becoming a SoTL scholar! In fact, this is the title of a new open-access book that includes scaffolded prompts for building your “wonderings” about student learning into a structured inquiry. Join us to learn more about the rich intersections of teaching and research via the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) October 24 from 2:30-3:45 p.m.
