UVA ACTS! @ Furman

Through performance and dialogue, UVA Acts promotes preventative practices that foster equitable, vibrant spaces for working and learning. Drawing on practices in Theatre of the Oppressed, Theatre in Education, and community-based performance, UVA Acts ensembles perform plays interrupted with moments of facilitated dialogue and audience intervention. Please register using the link below to join this first of three sessions at Furman with a focus on interventions that faculty members can employ to promote equity in the workplace and the classroom. This first session will take place virtually.

First Days uses an analysis of the first moments of a semester to understand how power, inclusiveness, and belonging are communicated to students. An interactive slide show invites participants to take on the perspective of the student then equips instructors with evidence-based principles and practical tools for cultivating inclusive learning environments. The slide show typically takes one hour to complete, but that ranges based on participants’ interest in additional resources. We encourage participants to take the time to engage with the interactive elements! It adds only a few minutes to the overall time, and it results in a more dialogic experience. Participation is anonymous and will be restricted to your group, which will offer a chance for participants to learn from colleagues’ responses.

Complete the asynchronous portion on August 6 from 10-11am before we meet together at 11 for a brief discussion of your takeaways and commitments.
