September 19, 2025 @ 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm

Friday, September 19, 2025
Friday, October 10, 2025
Friday, October 31, 2025

12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Duke Library 203 (Pitts Room)

Plants are accomplished adaptors who “know” who and where they are and what they should be doing, responding to ecological challenges through transformative behaviors that maximize thriving. In Lessons from Plants, Beronda L. Montgomery’s meditative study explores the depth of botanic experience to show how we might improve human society by appreciating not just what plants give us, but how they achieve their own purposes. Her work challenges us to become more aware of our environments and adapt to our worlds through enhanced perception, awareness, and community. Please join the Faculty Development Center for one of our Reading Circles this fall to share your insights with faculty and staff colleagues as together we learn all we can from plants and each other!

Bring Your Own Brown Bag; the FDC will provide snacks and drinks to supplement your meal.

We will meet for conversation three times in Duke Library 203 (Pitts Room), on September 19,  October 10th, October 31st from 12:30-1:45 p.m.

Register online and request a complimentary copy of the book, while supplies last. If you receive a copy of the book from the FDC, we ask that you strive to attend all three of our planned discussions.
