Support in the aftermath of Atlanta murders

March 18, 2021

Dear Furman Community,

The recent murders of eight people in the Atlanta area is horrific and troubling for so many reasons. We share in the grief and sorrow that stem from this violence.

Whenever violence occurs to people of a community, it occurs to everyone in that community. We understand that this shooting has been particularly troubling for Asian Americans and for people of Asia and Pacific Islander (AAPI) descent. We condemn the violence in Atlanta and the overall increase in violence against the AAPI community. To members of the AAPI community who are part of the Furman Family, please know that we steadfastly stand by you and are here to support you in whatever way you need.

Furman is a close and caring community. It is important that we care for one another when tragedies like this occur, and to seek help when needed. If you need support, or if you would like to talk with someone, you can find help at these offices:

Counseling Center: 864-294-3031
