May 10, 2022

Spartanburg’s Northside Initiative received the inaugural OneSouthCarolina Partners in Progress Award from Furman University’s Riley Institute. The award, which was presented by former South Carolina governor and U.S. Secretary of Education Dick Riley, recognizes achievements that advance social and economic progress in South Carolina. Ten years in the making, the Northside Initiative is an ongoing neighborhood revitalization effort to spur economic prosperity, increase quality affordable housing, improve access to healthy food and promote positive health outcomes.

The award was presented at the Building OneSouthCarolina forum in Columbia on May 10. The Post and Courier was there to cover the story. A subscription may be required to see the full article. Furman ID holders may view the content through online databases hosted at James B. Duke Library.
