Peace grew up in Greenville and maintains strong ties to the community.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina and had a first career as a journalist with the Associated Press in New York City and later as a freelance writer in Argentina and Brazil.  She spent time in Ireland and returned to New York in 1984.  There she attended Fordham Graduate School and graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work.  Peace continued to study at the Training Institute for Mental Health in New York where she became a director, teacher, and training supervisor.  She continues to be on the Board of Trustees at the Institute.

Peace served on several boards at the University of North Carolina—The Ackland Museum, the Graduate School Advancement Board, and the Board of Visitors.

In 2000 Peace moved to Miami Beach where she has been involved in various philanthropic ventures, including the Sullivan/Ansin High School Workshop in Journalism and New Media.

Peace’s son, Patrick, and family live in Brooklyn, NY and her daughter, Frances, and family live in Cambridge, MA.

When Peace isn’t in Miami or visiting her family, she’s either in Tel Aviv, Paris, or Flat Rock.
