Morgan Kohlmeyer is a Communication Studies major from just outside of Chicago, Illinois. She is an active student across the Furman community, partaking in a large array of Furman organizations, clubs and opportunities. Morgan is highly involved with the Heller Service Corps, establishing the first international agency within the organization KidsUganda. She also serves as an Admissions tour guide, a member of club soccer, and a member of her sorority Kappa Delta.

Morgan has taken advantage of several engaged learning experiences offered through Furman including interning for Pendleton Place as a project development intern and a marketing intern for Furman's Undergraduate Evening Studies program. She also studied abroad through an affiliate program, DIS, where she was chosen as a student blogger and pursued her studies in strategic communication through courses in International Marketing and Advertising.

In her own words...

"Engaged learning is such a vital part of cultivating personal growth as an undergraduate. I seriously believe - and can attest to this after studying away for a semester - that there is nothing more gratifying than taking the initiative to step outside of your comfort zone and discover your true strengths and weaknesses. It's so validating to see what you can create by getting your hands dirty in the field, planting new seeds, pulling out weeds, tripping over vines, and all that jazz. You discover who you are, what you're capable of, and what YOU can bring to the table when you put yourself to the test. I think that the Engaged Learning opportunities at Furman allow you to do just that. I loved my time in Copenhagen and I loved my classes at DIS because they challenged me to work with students from other universities, develop a global mindset, and see so many things - including my Communication Studies major - from a new perspective. I felt wiser, more confident, and overall carried a broader sense of awareness after going abroad. That self-discovery thing people talk about is no joke. Furman provides you with the tools to cultivate this kind of growth, so go TRY THEM OUT!"
