Michael May received his BFA in Painting from Ball State University. Upon graduation, he held several jobs in a direct care capacity for children with special needs, young adults with criminal records, and adults with mental illnesses. During this time he continued drawing, painting and exhibiting his creative work around the Midwest and the United States. He received his MFA in Painting from Miami University (Ohio) and has since been teaching painting, drawing, foundations and capstone classes while maintaining an active exhibition record.

Honors

Michael has won the Ohio Arts Council’s Individual Excellence Award for excellence in painting. He has won many other awards in juried exhibitions and has been awarded or nominated for multiple fellowships and teaching awards.

Research

Michael May works in drawing and painting. His creative focus combines representational image-making with a broad range of topics typically derived from his experience working in the field of social work. Humor and narrative are the vehicles for sharing his research. He also works with students to develop creative work for non-profit organizations with social impact.
