David A. Laxer graduated from Furman in 1987 with a B.A. in Business Administration.  He began his professional career at Trust Company Bank, in Atlanta.  David moved back to Tampa in 1990 to join his parents in their family business, Bern’s Steak House, which was started in 1956.  David and his wife have expanded their family-owned businesses, including Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits and Haven.  In 2014 they further expanded their hospitality endeavors with the Epicurean Hotel in 2013 and added an Epicurean Hotel in Atlanta in 2021.

David is active in the Tampa Bay community.  He and his wife started the Laxer Family Foundation which supports many charities and non-profits in the Tampa Bay area, with a focus on culinary/wine education, food sustainability, and assistance for our Veterans.  David currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.

David is married to Christina Laxer.  They have three daughters, Ellie (Furman ’21, who played on the women’s soccer team), Aimee (Northeastern ’24), and Bebe (Class of ’28)
