
Christi Newsom Byron
Retired President, Southeast for NFP Corporate Services
Christi is a 1991 graduate from Furman where she majored in Sociology. She was the President of the Southeast Region for NFP Corporation, an insurance broker and consultant ranked as the fourth largest U.S.-based privately owned broker. After retiring at the end of 2021 from her position as President, Christi co-founded Catalyst Business Consultants, Inc. where she works with NFP and other companies in a consulting capacity and is currently serving on the Investment Committee for NFP Ventures, a private equity firm that provides strategic venture capital for exceptional digital health, insurtech, and fintech entrepreneurs.
Christi was a founding partner of Corporate Benefit Advisors (CBA) in 1993 and spent over 25 years in insurance consulting and brokerage. When CBA was acquired by NFP, Christi became one of the Regional Managing Directors and committed to the growth of the southeast operations for NFP. She led the region to significant organic growth and expanded the corporate benefits, retirement, wealth management, and property & casualty practices through integrated sales and acquisitions. Christi was promoted to President of the Southeast Region for NFP in 2018.
Christi and her husband, Will, are the parents of Alex '21 who played on the Furman Men’s Lacrosse team. She previously served Furman as a member of the Advisory Council, the Paladin Club, Parents Council, and Richard Furman Society Executive Committee and was involved with the steering committee that created the Charlotte Furman Business Series.
Christi has also served on the Board of Trustees at Charlotte Country Day School in Charlotte, NC. She is a sponsor member of the North Carolina Business Group on Health and serves on various industry advisory boards. She and Will are active fundraisers and work with many non-profit organizations around the southeast including Thompson Child & Family Focus and Loaves and Fishes.
