Lieutenant Hammett joined the Furman University Police Department in February 2025 as a Sergeant in the Patrol Services Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in the Investigations Division in October of 2025. Lieutenant Hammett retired from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office as a Sergeant in February of 2025 after serving over 26 years. Lieutenant Hammett served in numerous roles at GCSO including Uniform Patrol, Property Crimes, Homicide, Internal Affairs, and Accreditation Manager in the Administrative Division. He still serves as a member of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recovery Team as a diver and is a certified Underwater Crime Scene Investigator. Lieutenant Hammett holds Associates and Bachelor’s Degrees in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the University of Louisville SPI Homicide Program.
