Cathy Stevens is the Riley Institute’s Director of the Afterschool and Summer Learning Initiatives. Her work focuses on improving policy and leadership in South Carolina and across the country in the field of afterschool and summer learning. For the past decade, Stevens has directed the White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellowship, a program funded by the C.S. Mott Foundation that specifically focuses on afterschool policy leadership.
Stevens is currently spearheading an effort to write and produce a book on Governor Riley’s seminal education legislation, the Education Improvement Act, which became law in 1984 during his second term as Governor. The book should be available in late spring 2022.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University and a master’s degree in Education from Clemson University.
