CLP: Furman Symphony Orchestra presents ‘The Sacred and the Profane’

The Furman University Department of Music will present the Furman Symphony Orchestra in “The Sacred and Profane” Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Furman students with ID are admitted free of charge.

Maestro Stephan Fillare explores two monumental works that reflect contrasting perspectives on the human experience. Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide” opens the program with wit, energy and brilliance, drawing audiences into the irreverent and optimistic world of Voltaire’s famous satire. The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, a deeply expressive and monumental work that reflects the composer’s struggle to follow in the footsteps of Beethoven while ultimately establishing his own distinctive musical voice.
