The Furman University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the Furman Symphony Orchestra Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel on campus. The event is open to the public. A donation of $5 at the door is suggested.

Under the direction of Maestro Stephan Fillare, “FSO: Sum of Its Parts,” is a program celebrating the many individual voices that come together to create an orchestra. The concert features Richard Strauss’s “Serenade in E-flat Major for Winds,” Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “5 Fantasiestücke for String Orchestra,” Paul Dukas’s “Fanfare from La Péri,” and Samuel Barber’s moving “Adagio for Strings.” Together, these works highlight the distinctive sounds, colors and musical personalities of different sections of the orchestra.

From the focused sound of the winds and the warmth of the strings to the brilliance of a full orchestral ensemble, the program explores how individual contributions become something greater when brought together. “FSO: Sum of Its Parts” celebrates collaboration, musicianship and the essential role each musician plays in creating a shared musical experience.
