He aspired to be a high school band director when he started his career at Furman University. But Jamarcus Gaston ’07, a music and communication studies alumnus, had a change of heart. Now he’s co-host of WSPA’s “Your Carolina” where he spotlights local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Having interned with WSPA the summer before his senior year, Gaston is a 14-year veteran with the TV station. He told Greenville Journal, “My favorite stories are the stories about local businesses and makers, those are the stories that don’t appear in the nightly newscasts. There’s so much more to our community and luckily, we have avenues to tell those stories. Those people get forgotten a lot of times. Anytime you get to help a local business impact their bottom line, it’s critical.”

The online story by Vincent Harris includes a Condé Nast Traveler feature in which Gaston gives a video tour of Furman’s hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, and surrounding areas.
