How colleges weathered pandemic finances

In a wide-ranging story about the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to higher education, Susan Maddux, vice president for finance and administration, talked with The Chronicle of Higher Education (subscription required) about measures taken at Furman to weather the financial downturn. For most institutions the pandemic did not result in a “doomsday” scenario. At Furman, applications are up 30 percent this year, Maddux told the publication, and the budget for 2022 restores salary reductions levied last year.
