After tragedy in Charleston, a requiem in Florence

Charleston native Sarah Horick, a 2006 Furman University music theory graduate, was commissioned by the Florence Symphony Orchestra to compose music honoring those who died in the shooting at Emanuel AME Church.  The world premiere of her work “Beyond the Years” will be performed in March by the orchestra and Florence-based Masterworks Choir. After graduating Furman, Horick earned her master’s from Florida State and her doctorate in music composition from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
