Furman Farm visitors highlight their day in the Simpsonville Sentinel

The Simpsonville Sentinel reports on a July visit by the Mauldin Garden Club to the Furman Farm, where members traded note-taking for weed-pulling on a “work and learn” morning. Farm manager Bruce Adams and student interns showed the group around the quarter-acre organic garden, teaching the group about on-campus composting practices before putting visitors to work weeding raised beds, pinching basil blossoms and planting collard seeds in freshly turned soil.

The farm, run through the Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, doubles as a teaching tool for students and a produce source for the campus dining hall, meaning the garden club’s collards may turn up on a Furman lunch tray this fall!
