WSPA 7News tapped computer science expert Rebecca Drucker for a story about botnets, a network of internet connected devices infected with malware. Drucker, an assistant professor of computer science at Furman University, said targets of botnets rarely know they’ve been hacked.

“Even if your devices don’t have anything on them that you wouldn’t want the hackers to know, even if it’s something like ‘oh my smart plugs, my smart fridge – what are they possibly going to find out about me?’ [Hackers] want those small computers so they can do their nefarious tasks,” Drucker said.
