Furman University ‘s Kathleen B. Casey joins Margaret Burnquist of “Access Carolina” to discuss her new book, “The Things She Carried: A Cultural History of the Purse in America.” Casey, a professor of history and director of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program at Furman, shares the nuanced role purses played in the last 200 years. More than a fashion accessory, purses, bags and sacks were at the center of disruptive moments across time and quietly revealed issues surrounding privacy, gender, civil rights, autonomy and more.
