Furman University received a shoutout from London-based Financial Times in an article (subscription required) about retirees and how they gravitate to communities near college campuses. In “Retirees this way: college life is no longer just for students,” Dave Johnson, The Woodlands at Furman resident and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) member, cited access to campus arts happenings, sporting events and golf, not to mention the nice weather in the Upstate, as reasons he and his spouse moved to the community more than 15 years ago.

Furman history and political science alumnus Ezra Hall ’19 was also quoted in the article and recounted special times with his “adopted grandmother” at The Woodlands. The experience made a lasting impression on Hall who now serves as director of philanthropy and engagement at The Woodlands.
