Danielle Vinson comments on claims made by Nancy Mace
In The Post and Courier, Furman University’s Danielle Vinson weighs in on a speech made by South Carolina Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace. Vinson, a politics and international affairs professor, said Mace’s sexual abuse allegations raise questions about exactly what speech is appropriate to deliver from the House floor.
“Women need to be able to speak about what’s happening to them and they need to be able to do it without fear and know they are being taken seriously,” Vinson said. “At the same time, we always have to look at the context in which statements are made” and whether or not the statements might be politically motivated.
