Students make their voices heard at the Joseph Vaughn Oratorical Competition
A part of Black History Month celebrations and a tribute to renowned orator Martin Luther King Jr., the Joseph Vaughn Oratorical Contest took place Saturday, Feb. 18. First held in 2008 at Furman University’s Daniel Chapel, the contest is named for Vaughn, the first Black undergraduate to enroll at Furman in January 1965. The history of the contest, sponsored by Alpha Greenville Foundation and Furman University, is covered in Greenville Journal.
