More of the same in education?
South Carolina has devoted a tremendous amount of time and public funding in the past three decades to the accountability movement in education. Now the state has declared education still lacking and thus proposes a new round of education reform primarily focusing on, yet again, accountability, standards and high-stakes testing. If 30 years of accountability has failed, why is more of the same the next course of reform? Furman education professor Paul Thomas poses that question in an op-ed for The State newspaper.
