Lea Noblin Marshall ’89 Awarded Florida Education Innovator of the Year

The James Madison Institute (JMI) awarded the 5th Annual Florida Education Innovator of the Year Award to Lea Noblin Marshall, a Leon High School drama teacher whose unique and humorous tactics to inspire and motivate her students during the COVID pandemic earned her adoration from her students, their parents and the community.  Lea Noblin Marshall is a class of 1989 Furman University graduate. The award is presented each year to an individual who demonstrates innovation and distinction in education.

Mrs. Marshall was presented with the award during the J. Stanley Marshall Day Celebration, an annual event held by JMI each year during National School Choice Week as a way to bring focus to the importance of school choice and celebrate the many incredible educators throughout the state of Florida who work hard every day to guide and uplift their students.

“We are honored to announce Mrs. Lea Marshall as the 5th annual recipient of the Florida Education Innovator of the Year Award. A truly caring and dedicated teacher can change the lives of their students and Lea exemplifies that dedication each and every day. Lea’s passion and love for her students shone brightly through her ability to inspire and engage her students during the pandemic and we can think of no one more deserving of this award.” – Dr. Robert McClure, President and CEO, The James Madison Institute.

During the event, Mrs. Marshall discussed the challenges that she and her colleagues have overcome this year teaching during a global pandemic, her passion for teaching, and how her creative virtual teaching methods allowed her to engage not only her students, but their parents and friends as well. When asked where her passion and drive for teaching originated, Mrs. Marshall spoke about the inspirational teachers she had growing up.
