Game Day at Furman

The “Friday Night Lights” experience at Furman is nothing short of amazing. I mean, who wouldn’t love cheering on a #8 nationally ranked team? A typical gameday for students can look different depending on what you’re involved in, but one thing you’re sure to have is a good time!

For most students, football gamedays typically begin with a tailgate behind the end zone closest to Champions Walk. Here, you’ll find tents from various clubs and organizations around campus where you can enjoy food, games, and music before kickoff! Tailgating with other students provides the perfect opportunity to meet new people as you all gather for the same cause- cheering on the ‘Dins!

As a member of the Purple Diamonds Auxiliary Dance team, my gameday starts with band rehearsal about 2 hours prior to kickoff. After going over our pre-game routine, the parade into Paladin Stadium begins! Community members and students alike join the band, color guard, and dancers at Fan Fest as we put on a mini performance to get the crowd hype for kickoff! Fan Fest features community tailgates, a jump house for kids, food, and live music.

At kickoff, the student tailgate closes, and everyone fills the stadium. The student section is located right next to the band. The Purple Diamonds are seated at the very bottom of the bleachers in front of the band dancing in the stands to give Furman Fans an up-close and personal show. Throughout the game, our concession stands provide popcorn, nachos, candy, and other snacks. My personal favorite are the popsicles from Common Pops made from fresh fruit!

At halftime, fans enjoy a spectacular show from the Furman Band showcasing beautiful formations on the field and music that feeds the soul. Your Furman Paladins beat Tennessee Tech 45-10 on Thursday at our first home game. From the cheer team, to the band, to the dance team, and the Purple Diamonds, you’re sure to be entertained at every football game in Paladin Stadium. Watching the ‘Dins bring home a win makes it even more special. Keep your eyes peeled this season because a Southern Conference Championship is within reach for your Paladin football team!
