Meet Camila: One Of Our Newest Social Media Interns
Hey everyone! My name is Camila Canavati, and I am a first year student who is an aspiring communication studies major on the media studies track. My hometown is Florence, South Carolina, but I’m so excited to call Furman my home for the next four years! I’m looking forward to my role as a social media intern and sharing my first year experience with prospective students!

Fun Facts About Me
To share some niche information about myself, I love everything that social media encapsulates, which is why I am so excited to be a social media intern! I am also fluent in both Spanish and English, listening to music is the most therapeutic outlet for me, and I believe fashion is the best way to portray one’s personality!
Why I Chose Furman
The most common question people asked me in high school was “why Furman?” and to that I would always say “why not?” The leading reason as to why I selected Furman was because I wanted to attend a university that had a big school feel with all the small school advantages. Furman’s campus is beautifully laid out, which allows for the big college feel, but the connection with classmates and professors draws in the small school advantages. Other than this, I may have had an extra reason to love this institution. My older sister is a senior here at Furman and as her baby sister I have always viewed her as my biggest role model.
When she fell in love with Furman in her last year of high school, I immediately shared the same sentiments. Over her time here and all throughout every single one of my visits, I did not just fall in love with Furman because of my sister, but because it was truly the most astonishing college campus I had ever seen. Once it was finally time to apply to colleges, I wanted to keep my options open, but Furman was always in the back of my mind. College visit after college visit, my mother and I always found ourselves saying “it’s just not Furman” in the car ride on the way home. Nothing compares to Furman, which is why I followed in my sister’s footsteps—I’ll admit, she has impeccable taste! I chose Furman because I want people to know me by name, not just as a number.
Embracing Community at Furman
All my education years were spent in private schools, so I cherished the relationships I had with my teachers and administrators. The school that I attended always felt like a second home to me because I viewed everyone there as my family. So, when it came to selecting a university after high school, I was eager to feel that same comfort.
Furman University was the only place where I felt I would receive a sense of community, a rigorous learning environment, and a relationship with professors. This is not only what brought me to Furman but what keeps me here. In my first month as a student here, I have created connections with my professors and all the extraordinary students.
My Hope to Make an Impact as a Social Media Intern
This internship to me is an outlet where I can create content that will hopefully draw people to attend Furman and call it their forever home. I aspire to be a source of inspiration for prospective students and if I can carry out that as a social media intern then I will have achieved my goal. I am passionate about this internship and Furman University, and I am eager to add my creative touch to this campus!
