The Furman Advantage

The stronger Furman has become across the decades, the greater success it has had attracting the best students from around the country and the world—and the higher expectations have risen that Furman will prepare students for marked success in graduate school, wide-ranging careers and leadership in organizations and communities of every kind.

Furman has long stood out for its ability to blend the classic emphases of the liberal arts on critical-thinking, problem-solving and communications skills with deep and comprehensive practical learning. Through CLEARLY FURMAN, we will double-down on this Furman distinction and all it means for alumni opportunities. With donor support, we will significantly invest in our advising, mentoring, community engagement and career-preparation programs—and lift to another level Furman’s impact on the graduates who will help shape the rest of the 21st century.

The Pathways Advising program provides students with intentional, high-touch advising weekly the first two years of their collegiate experience.

Students develop habits of reflection, engage in intentional decision-making and goal-setting, and, over time, gain a sense of agency that is based on thoughtful and meaningful consideration.

The Furman Advantage guarantees students high-impact experiences through research, internships and study away.

Providing faculty and alumni with the knowledge, skills and tools to advise and mentor students is central to our success.

Gifts will provide access to workshops, training and materials, and off-set other costs for faculty and alumni participating in the program.

The Furman student experience is built on a strong sense of community that enhances the learning environment and forges lifelong ties to the university.

The Potential is Extraordinary

Guided by our strengths as a university, focused on learning experiences that empower students to achieve their most inspiring ambitions, we will do more than meet our mission and advance Furman’s reputation for excellence. As we become a national model for higher education, we will, through our graduates, influence action and ideas across the 21st century.
