Childers Jr. Research Fellowship in History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The Department of History is accepting student applications for the Waco F. Childers Jr. Research Fellowship in History.\u00a0 In order to facilitate a research project in collaboration with a history faculty member, up to two (2) students may receive between $5000 and $7000 for the 2020-21 academic year, which includes summer 2020, and which could begin as early as Spring Semester 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The Fellowship is competitive. Priority will be given to History majors, but non-History majors are eligible to apply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The successful applicant will conduct collaborative research with a professor in the Department of History. The nature of that collaboration is open-ended. For example, the student could serve as a mentee to a faculty mentor\u2019s research program or pursue a personal research agenda with the faculty mentor serving as supervisor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The range of fundable expenses includes but is not limited to fellowship\/stipend support for the student, research-related travel to archives and other relevant destinations, and materials and supply costs related to the project. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The funding cycle for the Fellowship is Furman\u2019s academic year, but the successful applicant is not required to complete the project within that one-year window. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Applications will be accepted immediately and be considered on a rolling basis until March 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2020 If the funds are not awarded in the initial application cycle, late applications will be considered up to June 30<sup>th<\/sup>, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Please direct any questions about the Fellowship to Dr. Erik Ching, Professor of History and Director of Undergraduate Research, <span style=\"color: #1f497d\"><a href=\"mailto:erik.ching@furman.edu\">erik.ching@furman.edu<\/a><\/span>, 864-294-2119.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"color: black\">To apply for the Waco F.
