The Federal Direct PLUS Loan is a low-interest loan available to parents of dependent undergraduate students and to graduate students. It can be used to borrow additional funds up to the total cost of attendance, minus any financial aid that has already been offered.

To be eligible for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan, the parent and the student must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students must also be enrolled at least half-time.  For more information about PLUS loan eligibility requirements, visit the Department of Education’s PLUS Loan website.

Please Note: The 2022-2023 PLUS loan application will be available at StudentAid.gov in April. Furman University will begin certifying Parent PLUS loans in June. This means a parent can apply for a 2022-23 PLUS loan beginning in April at to determine if they qualify, but the loan will not be added to the student’s financial aid package until summer, after certification is complete.
