Take Back The Night<\/h2>\n

Take Back the Night is a national event to raise awareness about violence against women and to demonstrate solidarity with survivors. As part of this event, personal testimonials by survivors of sexual violence and\/or domestic violence are read either by the survivors themselves or by someone else so that the survivors may remain anonymous.<\/p>\n

Consent Defined<\/h2>\n

This one-hour presentation by the Title IX Coordinator uses Furman’s policies to educate students on the Student Conduct Code and definition of effective consent.\u00a0 Presentation is effective for classroom presentations and student organization workshops\/seminars.<\/p>\n

Step Up Bystander Intervention<\/h2>\n

Bystander Intervention Leadership Training is a program presented by the Julie Valentine Center that teaches participants about determinants of prosocial behavior and makes students more aware of why they sometimes do not intervene in social situations. This bystander intervention training empowers students with tools to confidently intervene when they see troubling behavior. Step Up covers topics surrounding sexual assault, consent, healthy relationships, and gender stereotypes through role-plays and scenarios.<\/p>\n

Healthy Sexuality<\/h2>\n

A program presented by the Julie Valentine Center that discusses, consent, healthy relationships, communication, boundaries, and gender stereotypes. This program is presented to facilitate non-judgmental and open conversations between the facilitator and college students. While this program addresses the specific topics listed above, time can be allotted to facilitate a brief Q&A for participants.<\/p>\n

Refuse to be a Victim<\/h2>\n

The Furman Police Department offers a program that teaches students about situational awareness and crime prevention.<\/p>\n

Recognize and Escape Danger (RED) Class<\/h2>\n

The Furman Police Department offers a program that teaches students about situational awareness and basic self-defense.<\/p>\n

Basic Self-Defense Class<\/h2>\n

The Furman Police Department contracts with a local Black Belt Karate Instructor to facilitate a basic self-defense class annually.\u00a0 This class compliments the “Refuse to be a Victim” program.<\/p>\n
