shi center

The Shi Center for Sustainability is both an anchor for sustainability education and a launch pad for innovative teaching. As you’ll learn, sustainability has secured a prominent presence in the Furman curriculum.

If you’re interested in studying sustainability at Furman, you’re not short of options. Furman provides a broad range of sustainability-related courses to undergraduates.  The general education requirement “humans and the natural environment” ensures that all students learn about the relationship between humans and nature during their time at Furman. These classes have prepared many of our students for careers in sustainability. In fact, our undergraduates can major in sustainability science—the only such program in the nation at a liberal arts college.
