{"id":1540,"date":"2025-03-31T19:55:45","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T19:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/shi-institute\/?p=1540"},"modified":"2026-04-07T13:25:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:25:14","slug":"furman-to-receive-25000-in-pro-bono-consulting-for-renewable-energy-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/shi-institute\/furman-to-receive-25000-in-pro-bono-consulting-for-renewable-energy-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman to receive $25,000 in pro bono consulting for renewable energy project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cambridge, Mass. &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/secondnature.org\/\">Second Nature<\/a>, a leading organization advancing climate action in higher education, is pleased to announce that Furman University has been chosen as one of seven institutions to receive pro bono consulting services as part of the fifth round of its Pro Bono Consulting opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative, offered exclusively to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secondnature.org\/climate-leadership-network\/\">Climate Leadership Network<\/a> member institutions, provides technical support to accelerate campus climate action efforts. The consulting firms generously providing their expertise for this initiative include Brailsford &amp; Dunlavey, Coho and Ever-Green Energy.<\/p>\n<p>Furman\u2019s new strategic plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/strategic-plan\/\">FUture Focused<\/a>, recommits the university to sustainability leadership on campus and in the community. Through this initiative, Coho will provide a clear and actionable roadmap for transitioning to renewable power within the next five years, allowing Furman to meet its goal of a 60 percent net carbon footprint reduction by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen tackling complex sustainability challenges, we recognize the value and expanded capacity that external experts can provide. Sourcing renewable electricity is a critical part of Furman\u2019s carbon neutrality journey, and we are grateful to have Coho\u2019s expertise to guide us,\u201d said Furman University President Dr. Elizabeth Davis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Second Nature, we are dedicated to equipping our member institutions with the resources and expertise needed to drive meaningful climate action,\u201d\u00a0said Steve Muzzy, Climate Programs Senior Manager at Second Nature. \u201cThis year\u2019s Pro Bono Consulting awardees exemplify the leadership and innovation that higher education brings to the forefront of climate solutions.
