This month, we were excited to welcome Furman University family, friends and community members for our Three Sisters Dinner, hosted by Topsoil Restaurant in Travelers Rest. <\/a>The five-course dinner celebrated corn, beans and squash – known as the Three Sisters – and featured other ingredients from local farms and indigenous to our area.<\/p>\n

\"\"Proceeds from the event will support the Community Conservation Corps’ (CCC) efforts to assist homeowners with storm recovery after Hurricane Helene.\u00a0 In partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County<\/a>, the CCC helps our friends and neighbors build resilience by improving the energy efficiency and safety of their homes. Our goal at the CCC is to make homes warmer, safer and drier while helping homeowners save money on their utility bills. This means homeowners can stay in their homes and in their communities. And we all saw how important our neighbors and our community ties were after the storm, said CCC Program\"\" Coordinator Joy Baker.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the generosity of our guests and our gracious hosts at Topsoil, and to Pacolet Milliken, LLC<\/a> for kicking us off with matching funds, we were able to raise $8,000 for the CCC in just one evening. These funds will go directly to weatherizing at least two homes in Greenville County.<\/p>\n
