This week-long event will feature a variety of activities, programming and initiatives designed to engage students, faculty, and staff in discussions and actions around sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of our Sustainability Week will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Paris Mountain Hike<\/strong>, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. <em>Sunday, Sept. 29<\/em>, with the Furman University Outdoor Club. Register through <a href=\"https:\/\/rec.furman.edu\/Program\/GetProgramDetails?courseId=1e779b74-1441-4463-9470-71870c4375b3\">Furman Campus Recreation<\/a> or contact <a href=\"mailto:frisst4@furman.edu\">Stella Frisbie<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Smart Recycling<\/strong> with Mr. Jim, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. <em>Monday, Sept. 30<\/em>, Joseph Vaughn Plaza (in front of the library). Get a copy of our new Green Guide and talk to our amazing Custodial Manager Jim Benes about some simple ways to live sustainably on campus. While you&#8217;re there, pick up one of our &#8220;Super Duper&#8221; new stickers!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conscious Cuisine in the DH with Furman&#8217;s Eco Reps<\/strong>: 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. <em>Tuesday, Oct. 1<\/em>, Furman Dining Hall. Learn more about Furman&#8217;s composting program, check out the DH&#8217;s new plant-based food station, and try a Sustainability Week smoothie from noon-1 p.m. upstairs at Blend &amp; Bowl!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Furman Farm Tours and Open House<\/strong>: Stop by the Shi Institute for pizza and treats and learn about our organic farm and closed loop food system with our Farm Manager Bruce Adams. Volunteer opportunities are available! <em>5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bike parade to the Travelers Rest Harvest Market!<\/strong> <em>5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3<\/em>. Please meet at the Swamp Rabbit trail entrance by the Furman Lake and bike with us up to Trailblazer Park in Travelers Rest for the city&#8217;s first Harvest Market during the month of October. Purchase produce from local farmers at the pop-up market, enjoy food from six local food trucks, and listen to live music by the Brooks Dixon Band. And stop by the Shi Institute tent while you&#8217;re there!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tote bag painting with FUSAB<\/strong>, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., <em>Friday, Oct. 4,<\/em> lawn in front of the Furman Library. Join Shi Institute staff members and FUSAB representatives and paint a reusable tote bag to take home with you. We&#8217;ll have music and drinks from Swamp Rabbit Cafe. Please bring your own coffee mug!!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sustainability Week display in the Furman Library<\/strong> <em>(all week during regular library hours)<\/em>. Learn about Furman University&#8217;s new Climate Action Plan, which aims for a 60 percent net reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. Also, check out the Library&#8217;s special display of sustainability-related books and see a brand-new collection of photographs by Anna Timbes &#8217;25. Follow along as Anna tells a story of South Carolina farmers and the land that they steward. This summer, she traveled across the state to photograph and interview farmers to document the impact of urban and rural land development.
