Ivan Agyaakwah \u201925, an economics major and member of the men\u2019s soccer team, presented his idea,\nCollege Coach, at The Hill Institute\u2019s pitch competition. College Coach connects college and professional\nathletes with aspiring players through individualized coaching. Agyaakwah\u2019s goal is to increase\nhomegrown soccer talent through one-on-one coaching and mentoring. Growing up in London,\nAgyaakwah said he never knew how difficult it was for young people to succeed in their sport until he\ncame to the United States.<\/small><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It\u2019s a simple, universal hope: to better ourselves through higher education. But at the heart of that\npurpose is a desire to do so on behalf of others, to make a positive difference in the world through our\nability to reinvest in those who come after us. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Furman is where excellence gathers. It is also where\nstudents develop the ability and the desire to shape the future in ways that strengthen their\ncommunities and advance society more broadly.<\/p>\n\n

After receiving a record-breaking 7,539 applications, the university welcomed a new student class of 650\nstudents in Fall 2022, a group of students with strong academic credentials and exceptional\nextracurricular accomplishments. The average SAT composite score for the entering class was 1358, and\nabout 40% of these students were in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.<\/p>\n\n

These elements are strengthened through the four-year pathway, with the Pathways Program\ncurriculum helping to ease students\u2019 transition to college by connecting them to campus resources and\nthen encouraging students to reflect on who they are, what they value and what they want to pursue\nboth in and out of the classroom. This is followed by department-specific programming in years 3 and 4\nthat help students learn about careers in their discipline and discipline-specific expectations.<\/p>\n\n

The substantial increase in high-quality applications allowed the university to admit more students while\nmaintaining and in many cases increasing academic quality and diversity metrics.<\/p>\n\n

Fall 2022 Recruitment<\/b><\/em>
\nWith the welcomed return to more traditional on-campus recruitment events for 2021-2022, we hosted\nmore than 4,200 prospective students and their families on campus for daily visits, Fall for Furman open\nhouse events, scholarship day and admitted student events.<\/p>\n\n

We continued to offer a hybrid of in-person and virtual recruiting events to connect with prospective\nstudents across the country and internationally, hosting over 800 in-person and virtual high school visits\nand college fairs, counselor conversations, regional showcases, academic department showcases,\ncollege counselor lunch and learns, and a college toolkit series for prospective students and parents.<\/p>\n\n

Our combined efforts resulted in a 5% increase in admissions applications for Fall 2022.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

International Recruitment<\/em><\/b><\/p>\n\n

  • Furman established a new partnership with Second Chance \u2013 a program that helps high-achieving students from around the world who have little exposure to college counseling find a university in the United States. Through this program, Furman enrolled students from Cameroon and Nepal.<\/li>\n

  • We continued our partnership with United World College schools for the 2022-2023 recruitment cycle. This included hosting virtual visits to all 18 UWC schools, as well as participating in-person presentations and events with counselors, students and parents in Costa Rica, Mexico, the Netherlands, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the United Arab Emirates.<\/li>\n

  • Through the Council of International Schools, Education USA centers and individual high schools and independent counselors, Furman hosted in-person and virtual workshops, webinars and presentations around the world. These efforts brought powerful results.
