I like to say that I transferred because I was going to school up north and I really didn’t like the cold. Obviously, that's not the main reason. I am from Florida but I was going to school on Long Island in New York at Hofstra University. Hofstra was a good school, but I played basketball there and team-wise I’ve always been a family-oriented person. Since I was far away from home and in the cold, I wanted that family-oriented experience and I felt like Furman had that. Furman had also a good academic setup that I felt would be a better fit for me; especially with the small classes. I think those two aspects really helped me because I felt like it was somewhere I could feel at home, I had a family-orientated team, as well as being at a good academic school where I could learn. I need a lot of attention from my teachers so that aspect meant a lot.

At my previous school, there weren’t huge classes like at a state school but it was bigger and the teachers didn’t give as much attention as Furman teachers do. I feel like here I am close with my teachers and I️ can just go into their office and feel comfortable. Whereas, at Hofstra I wasn’t able to do it much. Especially because they only had certain office hours and sometimes it conflicted with my schedule.

I was slightly concerned to transfer – both schools and teams – but it was an easy transition because the coaches here are young and they understand you. They’re just easy to talk to so it wasn’t as hard.

After school, I plan on applying to a nursing program. I️ always told myself, “this is where I’m going to play basketball and I’ll figure out the rest.” Furman is the place that allows me to do that.
